United are set to move closer to a deal for Manchester City midfielder Nolito after a long-awaited offer was rejected.
The midfielder’s representatives had been seeking a fee of around £20m, with the Red Devils insisting they were willing to match the deal, although there was some opposition to the £30m valuation of City’s star man.
However, United are now set to make a final bid for the 22-year-old, with a bid likely to come in the region of £25m.
United would need to stump up more than £20-30m to land Nolitos services, but they are unlikely to be willing to take that risk.
Manager Louis van Gaal has been keen on signing Nolitosi since the summer and has also been linked with Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko.
The Netherlands international was part of Van Gaal’s first-team squad last season, but it was his performances in a midfield role that led to him leaving at the end of the campaign.
Nolito is currently on loan at Fiorentina, but the club confirmed they will move for the Spaniard if United can secure the right price.
Van Gaal has a history of looking for players with defensive ability, but he may be able to persuade his former club to let Nolitozos go for a similar fee.
Nolan was among the first names in the United squad for Euro 2016, but was unable to make the cut due to a knee injury that sidelined him for the majority of the tournament.
